About Joan Witte

Joan Witte earned her B.F.A. in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she studied piano, voice, and harp. She has been an independent piano teacher for over thirty years, working with students from age six through adult.

 

She has been involved with the music program at Aviston Elementary School in Aviston, Illinois for over twenty years, serving as an accompanist for the choir and for the many students who attend solo contest each year.

 

A member of the Gateway Arch East MTA since 2003, Joan served as Secretary from 2006-2010 and Yearbook Editor from 2014-2018. She has served as the Treasurer since 2018 and also holds the position of AIM Performance Exam Scheduler. She has been the music director of New Baden United Methodist Church in New Baden, Illinois since 1991, where her duties include playing piano and organ, and directing the vocal and handchime choirs.

 

Joan also worked as a freelance harpist for over thirty years, playing for a wide variety of engagements, including restaurant dinner music, orchestra and choir concerts, solo concerts, weddings, private parties, and recording radio and TV commercials.

 

While living in New Jersey, she was privileged to be invited to perform with the U.S. Air Force Band of the East on a number of occasions, and was the featured soloist for a tour of Pennsylvania, performing Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp.
